history
So I was born in Germany. My parents were stationed there for a few years.
Eventually dad finished his stint, and they moved back to the states. There were a few years in New Jersey and Illinois before they settled outside my dad's home town of Peru, Indiana.
My dad is a grower, and my parents decided in the early seventies to build and open a greenhouse. So it took them a few years, but that's what they did. Mostly what I remember from the really early years is all the concrete that they poured for the greenhouse flooring was great to skate on.
After a long adoption process in 1978 I got my first brother, Scott. I was 8. So was Scott. In 1979, we got another brother, Tony. He was 6. He and Scott were half-brothers. Scott's the brunette and Tony's the blond. That's the main building of the greenhouse behind the truck.
Fast forward through the years of geekiness and bookishness in rural Indiana.
I went to Indiana University in 1992 and took a little longer than I would have preferred to finish my undergraduate in English, but enjoyed myself thoroughly the last 3 years while competing on the Indiana University Speech Team.
Did a little grad school in Rhetorical Criticism, dropped out. Did my stint in the university library, and finally decided in 1995 to move to Seattle. Accidentally got side tracked in San Francisco and never moved to Seattle.
Couple wild and crazy years in the city of San Francisco before I met Sandy....
