technical trainer and graduate student

After many years of web interface development, technical training and curriculum development, my focus is shifting toward academic research and schooling. Thus, this page serves a dual purpose. On the one hand, I am still developing and training, on the other hand, my research interests are percolating and my nascent list of publications is emerging.

My technical skills revolve around web interface development specifically XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax, XML and XSLT. I am a Dreamweaver Certified Expert as well as Dreamweaver Certified Instructor. I have crafted curricula for numerous courses from basic HTML and CSS to a multi-day XML, XML Schema and XSLT bootcamp. I served as technical editor on Rob Huddelson's XML book and have consulted on numerous web development projects.

I completed my Master's in Library and Information Science at the University of Washington in the winter (2009). My research interests focus on human-computer interaction (HCI) in various arenas. I wrote a paper on metaphor use in HCI that won the ALA Lita/Ex Libris Student Writing Award in 2007. My thesis explores managment practices of collectors of music and video, revealing a world of collaboration and personal identity management among other things. As I consider doctoral programs, I hope to further investigate the intersection of interface, information, and identity.
